Home buyer slump puts pressure on Stockland Australia’s extended lockdown and sudden halt to migration are undermining diversified developer Stockland's strong start to the year and threatening earnings from its land estates and retail portfolio. Stockland, the country’s largest house and land developer, is a bellwether for home buyer sentiment but its strong pre-virus home buyer-driven recovery has come unstuck in the pandemic, with its retail portfolio also hard hit by the COVID-19 outbreak. What is a duplex

Duplex: What is a duplex & are they a smart investment? What does 'duplex' mean? The meaning of a duplex essentially consists of two homes built on a single block where the two residences share a common wall but have separate, independent entranceways. For all practical purposes, each home in a duplex property is an independent entity though they may exist under a single roof. Both units could either share a common land title or have separate titles after subdivision. Image: Twin Falls Hamptons - Lot size 435sqm with 16m width (Bluegem Homes) Why duplexes? Simply put, a duplex is a more affordable way to own a largely independent house, especially in an exclusive neighbourhood or a premium suburb. Given the runaway property prices in major urban areas across Australia, duplex homes like townhouses, make for an excellent investment for new home buyers as well as investors. A duplex delivers almost all the benefits of a detached house at about half the price, m…

But many interested parties are instead opting to stay at home, according to Mr Satterley who said the only people who come out are “quite advanced” in their plan…

PROJECT BUILDER vs CUSTOM BUILDER

PROJECT BUILDER vs CUSTOM BUILDER Building a new home? Consider the PRO’s and CON’s of a Custom Builder vs Project Builder We have recently been approached by friend who had bought a block of land and was looking to build. They had visited several display homes and project builders but were becoming confused and as they put it, “getting lots of shock therapy” when they saw the quotes. They contacted us and asked what is the different between us “builders” vs these project homes in a display village. First things first, there are pro’s and con’s to both. Anyone that tells you otherwise is obviously pushing a sale or trying to mislead you. Secondly, there is no right or wrong choice – you need a builder to suit your needs. All builders offer different results, services, pricing, and time frames but in the end, we all build to the same building code standards. We have put together the below table with notes to help provide a comparison of the typical custom bui…

10 things to look out for when inspecting a display home

10 things to look out for when inspecting a display home If you’re looking into house and land package options, then inspecting display homes is an exciting next step. But before you jump in feet first, some industry insiders share their top tips and how to prepare so you get the most out of your visit. 1. Know your budget Before the fun of looking for your dream home begins, first know how much you can afford to spend. “Be really clear about that before you enter and know what your repayments will be and make sure you’re comfortable with that before you go out there shopping,” advises general manager of the Homebuyers Centre, Simon Mongan. In the same way you are going to shop around for your house and land, shop around for finance, too. “Not all banks are created equal and not all brokers are created equal,” he warns. “Someone who specialises in construction finance is usually the best because there’s a lot of moving parts when there’s a block…
