Wollongong tiny home start-up Panorama Prebuilt
Imagine ordering a pre-made house to your specifications that can be assembled in a day, ready to live in within a week and moved whenever you like.
Wollongong mobile tiny home start-up Panorama Prebuilt is the brainchild of Diamond Hawkins, who set up her business at iAccelerate 15 months ago.
Last month, the business’s first three prefab tiny homes were constructed by local builders to lock-up stage in two and a half days.
The modules were all pre-made and ready to go together.
At least one of the mobile homes will remain at its present Helensburgh location for a couple of weeks before being towed to the client.
The process of building a tiny home to an owner’s specific requirements can take up to three months. However, once ready the builder can put the pieces together in a day, onsite or in a workshop, before the internal fit-out is completed.
Hawkins came up with the idea after moving back to Australia from Germany and settling in Otford with her husband.
She couldn’t understand why she felt so cold in her new northern Illawarra home.
When she discovered the house had little to no insulation she started thinking about sustainable homes.
One thing led to another and Hawkins – a structural engineer who had previously worked for car manufacturer Daimler and mining services provider Thiess – decided on making high-quality small homes that can easily be hitched up and relocated so they are capable of a variety of uses.
With the option of a composting toilet, rainwater tank, solar roof panels and solar batteries for power, they can be taken completely off-grid.
With its energy-efficient design, the tiny home is a little like Dr Who’s Tardis and looks much bigger on the inside than it appears.
There is room for two double beds, a lounge table and other furniture. They can come with a deck.
Hawkins said Panorama Tiny was the name of Panorama Prebuilt’s architecturally designed tiny home product. She commissioned Chaya Bratoeva, of AntfarmProjects, to help and is already working with several local builders.
Panorama Tiny is constructed using an innovative modular system to provide a sustainable, affordable dwelling perfect for everything from a granny flat to an independent home, additional space for a studio or guest house, a short term rental, Air B&B, holiday escape or weekend getaway…
